有趣的英语冷知识（298）英语俚语icing on the cake是“蛋糕加冰”？真正的意思超级实用！Icing on the cake是个常见英语俚语，字面上来看，icing是冰，cake是蛋糕，好像应该翻译成“蛋糕加冰”什么的，其实还真不是这样。

那么它的实际意思是什么呢？剑桥词典对它的注释是：something that makes a good situation even better也就是表示让原本已经很好的事情变得更好，也可以更精准点说是好上加好，锦上添花。

icing在这里和“冰”没有关系，而是指点缀用的“糖霜，糖衣”蛋糕本来就很好吃了，上面再加上一层糖霜，岂不是更美味了？所以用来表达生活中频繁遇到好事这个俚语源于西方的蛋糕制作流程，19世纪末的时候就已经被广泛应用，最初是frosting（霜） on the cake，到20世纪中逐渐演变成了icing on the cake。
